This video introduces Tone Perfect, a multimodal database for Mandarin Chinese developed at Michigan State University (MSU). Because Mandarin Chinese is a tonal language, the same sound can hold entirely different meanings depending on the tone used to pronounce it. This tool, developed by Associate Professor Catherine Ryu in partnership with MSU Libraries, helps Mandarin language learners sharpen their tonal perception. Click the image below to watch:
